Happy Easter Following the recent appointment process, it gives me great pleasure to let you know that governors hve appointed Mrs Leanne Gaffiney who will join the staff at Skerton St Luke’s as Headteacher in September. Mrs Gaffiney is currently headteacher at Walton-on-Trent CE Primary and Nursery School in Derbyshire. She and her family will be relocating to the area over the summer. Governors, staff and children were all involved in the recruitment process in some form and it was a resounding ‘YES’ from everyone. I have also met Mrs Gaffiney and I know she is going to fit right into St Luke’s and is full of new ideas and enthusiasm to continue to move our wonderful school forward. Congratulations and welcome! Mrs Armistead

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE TRIPS

It has been a really busy term full of lots of outdoor learning opportunities for many of the classes in school.  This will continue throughout the summer months with every child in school joining in some outdoor adventure learning.  This along with swimming, residentials etc is not just a fun time for the children, it is also a huge part of the   National Curriculum and allows children to learn outdoor skills as well as resilience and team work.

When these opportunities come up please ensure children dress in appropriate clothing and arrive at school on time.  Whilst Sports Funding covers the cost of the activities we are holding extra fund raising to cover the cost of transport to and from the venues

ITEMS FROM HOME

Recently, there have been an increasing number of issues arising in Key Stage 2 involving personal items being brought into school and then getting lost, traded or passed along etc. This is causing incredibly valuable learning time to be lost trying to find and resolve these issues. It is not appropriate for adults to be asked to look for children’s personal items taking us away from teaching the children. It is also distracting the children during lessons. On top of this, the children only have their trays as a safe place to put their stationary

Testimonials

It’s a lovely community. We all feel like a part of St Luke’s family. My child loves her teachers and knows other members of staff. It’s lovely to walk into school and people know my child’s name and always say hello to her, even teachers from other classes or Mrs Armistead.

Parent

I know when I drop my kids off they are happy and safe and they both enjoy their time in school.

Parent

Thank you for not only teaching my daughter but also caring for her. She’s really happy at school and is making great progress in all areas of learning.

Parent

The staff have been so supportive of my child with Special Educational Needs. They are amazing and it makes me confident that my daughter is well looked after and if she has any problems they will help.

Parent of a child with SEND

The Reception Open Day really showed the school in a good light. The Headteacher showed us round and knew all of the pupil’s names. All of the children we met were friendly and polite but more importantly they were all smiling whilst learning.

Prospective Parent

Teachers are very helpful, friendly and approachable
