Newsletter - 20th November 2024

This year has flown by and we are now entering the season of Advent in the church year. We will be learning a lot about preparing for Christmas through the story of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe during our Worship in school. This is a lovely story about learning compassion, honesty and love for each other. Please feel free to support this learning by sharing the story with your child/ children through books or films. We have lots of activities coming up in school, please check the website and parent app as well as the ‘Dates to Remember’ on this newsletter.

Zumba Carnival

On Thursday 28th November we are having a Zumba Carnival in school.  The children can come dressed for a carnival and each class will take part in a Zumba lesson, learning dance moves and keeping fit.  This will be loads of fun so encourage the children to wear brightly coloured party clothes for the day

Parent Attitude Questionnaire

You should have received a questionnaire, one per family, for you to complete.  We really value your feedback and need everyone of you to complete this questionnaire and return it to school by Friday 29th November.  Please return it to the class teacher or pop it into the school office.

Reindeer Rush

Each year we take part in the Reindeer Rush in support of St John’s Hospice.  Children will receive a reindeer head band and do a sponsored run around the school field.  Please donate £1 to take part in this on Friday 6th December.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

From Friday 29th November to Thursday 5th  December we will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair in school.  This is a great opportunity for you to purchase some great children’s books for Christmas or just to share at home.  The Book Fair will be open straight after school each afternoon during the week.  Come along and have a look. Please note we can only accept payment by card.

Attendance

Attendance remains a high priority for us as a school and overall attendance has really improved this year.  We are monitoring pupils’ attendance when they fall below 98% and you will receive letters about the importance of good attendance.  Whilst we understand that most absences are for genuine reasons, we do need to remind parents of the consequences of children being absent from school at different points throughout the year.

Please remember that it is your responsibility to make sure your child/ children are in school, on time, each day that school is open.  Classroom doors are open from 8:45am.

In line with Government guidelines and school policy, we are monitoring attendance regularly and contacting parents with up-to-date attendance information.  Please do not be offended if you get such a letter, this is to ensure that you are informed about your child’s attendance and to share ways that we can support this in school should you need it.

Testimonials

It’s a lovely community. We all feel like a part of St Luke’s family. My child loves her teachers and knows other members of staff. It’s lovely to walk into school and people know my child’s name and always say hello to her, even teachers from other classes or Mrs Armistead.

Parent

I know when I drop my kids off they are happy and safe and they both enjoy their time in school.

Parent

Thank you for not only teaching my daughter but also caring for her. She’s really happy at school and is making great progress in all areas of learning.

Parent

The staff have been so supportive of my child with Special Educational Needs. They are amazing and it makes me confident that my daughter is well looked after and if she has any problems they will help.

Parent of a child with SEND

The Reception Open Day really showed the school in a good light. The Headteacher showed us round and knew all of the pupil’s names. All of the children we met were friendly and polite but more importantly they were all smiling whilst learning.

Prospective Parent

Teachers are very helpful, friendly and approachable
