Newsletter 17th July 2024

Thank you! In the final Newsletter of 2023-24 I would like to offer my thanks to a number of people. Firstly, thank you to the amazing staff who go above and beyond to meet the needs of children, parents and each other in school. We are very fortunate to have dedicated teachers, teaching assistants, pastoral staff, office staff, kitchen staff, welfare staff and premises staff. Without these people St Luke’s would not be the wonderful school it is. Thank you to the children for their hard work and excitement in learning. It is their enthusiasm to learn new things that makes us all work so hard for them. I am so proud of the progress that every child has made this year. Thank you to all of you parents. A school only succeeds when we work in partnership with staff and parents to provide opportunities for children. Thank you for keeping communication open, for helping your child in their learning both academically and socially and thank you for supporting us in all that we do.

Leavers

On Friday we say farewell to our amazing Year 6 children.  They have worked so hard this year and throughout their time in school.  This group had

disruption to Year 2 and Year 3 because of the

pandemic and this has meant they have had to work very hard throughout Key Stage 2 to catch up on key learning.  I wish them every success in the future.

Mrs Hatton also leaves us as she enters the world of early retirement. She has been a massive part of this school for many years and has worked here for 29 years!  She will be missed by pupils, parents, staff and all who work with her.  We wish her every happiness and much joy.

If you would like to add a donation towards a gift, please put your donation in an envelope and label it for the attention of Mrs Armistead.  Your name will be added to Mrs Hatton’s card once Mrs Armistead has received them.

Miss Garnett finishes for her maternity leave, but she will be back!  We will miss her over this time but we know she will be very busy enjoying her new life as a mum.  I wish her health and joy and look forward to meeting her baby in the near future.

New staff/Staff changes

We welcome Mrs Bird as our new School Business Support Officer.  Mrs Bird comes to us from an education and health

background and is quickly learning how our school works.  She is a lovely and friendly new member of staff so please make her feel welcome in her new role in the office.

Miss Quilliam will now be our new School Business Manager.  Again, she is quickly learning her new role as she steps into the very experienced shoes of Mrs Hatton.  This means that your first point of contact when contacting school will be Mrs Bird.  Please do give them both words of encouragement as they learn and grow into these new positions in school.

We also welcome Miss Taylor who joins us on secondment from Grosvenor Park; Miss Taylor is a very experienced Teacher and will be teaching  Year 6 to cover Miss Garnett’s maternity leave. Mrs Marshall will also be joining the EYFS Team as a newly qualified Teaching Assistant.

Reports

It has been a very busy few weeks in school as we head to the end of the school year.  You should have received your child’s end of year school report via Class Dojo. If you haven’t received a copy, please let the school office know and we can sort that out as soon as possible

Reports and Attendance

As part of the end of year report we have to let you know your child’s attendance percentage.  When a child is on the school register their attendance must be recorded by law.  Some absences are authorised (in cases of illness, doctor’s appointments etc), some absences are not authorised (in cases of unauthorised holidays etc). Regardless of whether the absence is authorised or not, if a child is not in school at the time of taking the register, then they are recorded as absent.  This is a statutory requirement for all schools.

The table below shows how many days missed each half term would lead to Persistent Absence (Cause of Concern):

Testimonials

It’s a lovely community. We all feel like a part of St Luke’s family. My child loves her teachers and knows other members of staff. It’s lovely to walk into school and people know my child’s name and always say hello to her, even teachers from other classes or Mrs Armistead.

Parent

I know when I drop my kids off they are happy and safe and they both enjoy their time in school.

Parent

Thank you for not only teaching my daughter but also caring for her. She’s really happy at school and is making great progress in all areas of learning.

Parent

The staff have been so supportive of my child with Special Educational Needs. They are amazing and it makes me confident that my daughter is well looked after and if she has any problems they will help.

Parent of a child with SEND

The Reception Open Day really showed the school in a good light. The Headteacher showed us round and knew all of the pupil’s names. All of the children we met were friendly and polite but more importantly they were all smiling whilst learning.

Prospective Parent

Teachers are very helpful, friendly and approachable
